Getting Away.png

After seven weeks of COVID-19 quarantine, we are all ready to get away! Whether it is to some exotic locale or simply to the local grocery store, we are ready to bust out of the house. In the Bible, it says that Jesus and Moses also spent 40 days in solitude, and neither of these men emerged from their isolation the same as they entered it. The thrust of this message is that being isolated can draw us closer to God or give us opportunity to "get away" from God. He invites us to draw near and promises that he will meet us there. Are you ready to get away? He's waiting.

Getting Back or Getting More.png

Beginning with Joel 2:25, we see that God promises to restore what the locusts have devoured. In our day and time, we here in America have not experienced the devastation of literal locusts, but with this pandemic we have experienced a figurative locust invasion that have left many destitute and in need of divine restoration. What does that restoration look like? Does God only replace what has been lost, or does he restore more than before? In Joel 2, our focus is usually on the various kinds of locusts listed. Our focus should be on the promise.

Growing in Grace.png

We all have things that happen to us that we want God to intervene and help us. Paul had this kind of thing happen to him, and God's answer was, "My grace is sufficient for you." In those moments, we don't want grace; we want relief! Perhaps our reticence to rest in his grace is that we don't understand it. To many of us, the word "sufficient" is not very powerful. The word "sufficient" in II Cor. 12:9 doesn't reflect the same meaning as our English word. God's grace, in this verse, is defined as having unfailing strength and powerful enough to defend and ward off any danger.  May we all continue to grow in grace during these difficult days.

Unstoppable Love.png

Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Christ after a gruesome crucifixion on Friday. Revelation 13:8 speaks of the Lamb being slain from the foundation of the world. The questions that few if any of us ever ask is, "Who killed him?" The answer is found in God's ultimate, eternal purpose for creation. While many may ask why God created the universe in the first place if he knew Satan would rebel and mankind would fall into sin, the fact remains that God left nothing to chance in this creation. Before "Let there be..." was spoken, "It is finished! had been proclaimed across time and eternity. Easter is when we remember and celebrate Jesus' death and resurrection, and today, as it has been for 2,000 years, the tomb is empty. He is risen! Yes, he is risen indeed!
